As part of City Echoes, NR Magazine presents Litebulb is New Ghost on November 22, a short documentary directed by Berlin-based filmmaker Johannes Haeussler. With a background rooted in photography and a practice spanning editorial and fashion film, Haeussler is drawn to subtle compositions and underseen cultural narratives.
The film traces the world of Chicago footwork, a genre and dance culture born in Black American communities on the South and West Sides of Chicago. Footwork, a sound whose rapid polyrhythms defined a kinetic language turned practice of collective endurance.
At its center is Litebulb: dancer, choreographer, and cultural anchor within the footwork community, and former collaborator and touring member of DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn of Teklife. His story opens an intimate window into a scene that has shaped global electronic music yet remains vastly under documented. Litebulb is New Ghost stands as one of the few films to capture footwork as heritage, a continuum of care, invention, and communal memory.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with the filmmaker hosted by NR Magazine, delving into how music, movement, and storytelling act as forms of cultural architecture, shaping community, identity, and space. Together, the film and discussion highlight the importance of documentation in preserving and celebrating underground legacies that continue to influence global culture today.
